Ruma is based at the Chocolate Factory in Wood Green, North London. She is primarily an oil painter but also produces works in various mediums including mixed media, collages, water colours and photographs. Her work explores both abstract and landscape subjects, drawing from nature and the urban landscape to create subtle dreamscapes and images using the language of painting through the use of vibrant colour and texture.

A recent series of paintings are influenced by Indian myths and legends from old Indian texts such as the Rg Veda and Upanishads. One painting in this series is ‘The burning of Kama,” the God of Desire. “Rahu and the Sun” another painting, is based on the enmity between the severed head of Rahu and the Sun and Moon, and so when Rahu swallows the Sun it becomes night.

Recent work also include paintings based on the River Thames, which explore the various moods of the river in different light conditions and in it’s ebb and flow. This is an on going series of work. She is currently working on a new series of paintings focusing on various parts of the day, evening and night. Through them, she seeks to touch upon and explore the poetic language of landscapes, their impact on our imagination, and our interaction and response to them.

Other paintings have been influenced by her travels in China, Italy and Spain including Tenerife. Gladstone Park paintings are an expression of her response to enclosed natural spaces in the urban environment.
